Radiator valves

Old radiator valves? Weeping? Leaking? Read on...

Two Types Of Valves Doing The Same Job

Old radiator valves...

...have a habit of leaking when you least need them to. Usually it will be during a cold spell when you want the heating on after a period of warm weather. Until they leak we often give them very little thought but a little thought and planning now can save a great deal of trouble latter.

Leaking radiator valves or simply an upgrade? What next?

Most valves will have rubber 'o' rings as internal seals but these can harden over time and begin to leak when adjusted. (Fig.A)

Some old style valves have no internal 'o' rings and will only seal when fully closed or fully open when the brass stopper inside is properly seated against one of its two internal sealing surfaces. (Fig. B)

At Plumbing Matters...

We can offer a competitively priced service to replace faulty Radiator valves. Now is a good time to plan such work as the weather is warm and the heating is required less. Trv s are a good way to go when replacing valves as they allow you to control the temperature in each room individually. They need to be kept clear of curtains and furniture though as for proper operation there must be a free flow of air around the valve head. If long curtains cover the radiators or space is such that it necessitates furniture close to the valve then a radio controlled head may be the solution.

A radio controlled head works in conjunction with a room thermostat. The thermostat is sited on a convenient wall in the room and controls the head remotely. As the radio controlled head is not sensing the air temp directly it can be close to curtains, furniture or under a radiator cover without impairing its operation. As the thermostat is in the room proper it will more accurately monitor the room temperature.

A radio controlled head can also be fitted to most existing trv s as a direct replacement for the existing radiator valves thermostatic head.

Leaking radiator valves or simply an upgrade? What next?

If you have found leaking radiator valves on your system or if you simply like the idea of radio controlled head s on your trv s for more controllable heat, and therefore more controlable bills, why not contact us today for a free, no obligation survey and estimate.
